Dr Khimlal Devkota has defeated Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ at the local level By-Poll for National Assembly seat.
The province level counting is underway for the same.
Out of the total votes, Devkota got 5088 votes, while Thapa secured only 4014.
While Krishna Bahadur Tamang of Nepal Majdur Kisan Party remained at the third position.
Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ had the election symbol of CPN(UML)’s Sun while the winner Dr. Khimlal Devkota contested under the symbol of pen and Krishna Bahadur Tamang had musical instrument ‘madal’.
Devkota had the backing of Nepali Congress, CPN(Maoist Centre), Janta Samajbadi Party Nepal and CPN(UML) Madhav Nepal group.
There are speculations that Prime Minister KP Oli didn’t want Badal to continue as the Home Minister, thus internally he was not supported much.
