Opposition alliance has filed writ petition at Supreme Court demanding House reinstatement and their candidate Sher Bahadur Deuba be made the new prime minister.

As many as 146 lawmakers, on Monday afternoon, including 23 of Madhav Nepal faction of the UML, 61 from the Nepali Congress, 49 from the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), 12 from the Upendra Yadav-Baburam Bhattarai of the Janata Samajbadi Party and one from Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal have knocked the doors of Supreme Court, deeming president Bhandari and prime minister Oli’s move as unconstitutional.

Though the opposition alliance had urgently called meeting on Sunday and decided to file the writ on Sunday, it had taken time due to preparation work.

Earlier, on Friday night President Bidya Devi Bhandari had rejected Deuba for the post of new Prime Minister.

Oli had also reclaimed for the same, but the process was scrapped, rejecting both candidates and the house being dissolved at midnight after cabinet meeting decision.

Gorkarna Bista, Pabitra Niroula and Ganesh Pahadi have not signed the petition, according to supreme court sources.

It is said that the Supreme Court officials were looking into the verification process and the hearing could take place on Tuesday or Wednesday.

As applicants all the lawmakers with their signatures on the petition have the right to stand before the hearing.

However, due to large number and pandemic constraint only few selected will be present for the hearing.
