Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Gopal Sharma has said that their Government was commited to try to reduce poverty.
Minister Sharma said on Friday in Khalanga of Rukum West that they had been working towards creating employment opportunities in every household below the poverty line, addressing a press meet organized by Federation of Nepalese Journalists(FNJ).
He also said that they had plans to provide relief to conflict victims.
“However the obstruction of province assembly by the opposition has hampered many plans and work directly related to general public,” he added.
Likewise, the FNJ president of Rukum chapter Laxman KC drew the attention of the Finance Minister towards the improvement in the condition of the Nepalese Journalists.
He said that annually around 65 lakh rupees was being taken out of the Karnali province in the form of payment for advertisements for different media through different ad agencies; while the local journalists were unable to hook the amount.
This was a first formal interaction with the journalists in the minister’s home town after being appointed the finance minister.
Similarly, the minister also innaugurated the inter-local level sports competition organised by the District Sports Development Committee in Khalanga the headquarter itself of the district.
On the occasion the Finance Minister Gopal Sharma said that they had been planning to establish a sports academy in Karnali province.
“Sports not only makes us healthy, it teaches us the true sportsmanship spirit; which the politicians should also learn and be patient in both victory and loss,” he said.
On the occasion, former Karnali sports minister Bimala KC, CPN(Maoist Centre) district incharge Basanta Sharma, CPN(Unified Socialist) leader Bimal Pun along others were present on the occasion.
Different sports clubs and teams representing local level units are participating in the competition to be held for 3 days.
Cash prizes and certificates have been arranged for the winners.
