Arjun Basnet of Rukum West has grabbed the trophy under men section, while Humi Budha Magar of Pyuthan has won the trophy under women in the Guerilla Marathon organised on the occasion of 26th People’s War day in Sanibheri of Rukum West.
Janardan Sharma ‘Prabhakar’ former Home Minister and standing committee member of Prachanda-Nepal led NCP standing committee member had inaugurated the marathon on Saturday.
Each year the marathon is organised by Sanibheri remote municipality on the occasion of People’s war day.
Winner Arjun Basnet had covered the distance of 46 Kms in 4 hour and 30 minutes leaving behind 65 runners.
Suman Kulung of Solukhumbu had begged second by covering the distance in 4 hour, 51 minutes and Ratna Bahadur Oli of Rukum West turned third; while Bhuwan Oli got the consolation prize.
Likewise, under women Humi Budha Magar had left behind 33 participants in 3 hour, 14 minutes.
Kalpana Tharu had begged the second prize, Rupa Nakal of Rukum West-Sanibheri turned third, while Muwa Bhandari of Sanibheri got the consolation prize.
Kalpana had covered the distance in 3 hour, 17 minutes and Rupa did it in 3 hour 20 minutes.
Participants from all across the country had joined the game, according to Maurakhara Youth Club.
The first prize winner in men got a trophy, certificate and a medal along with the cash of 80 thousand rupees.
The second got 55 thousand rupees, third received 35 thousand and the consolation was given 10 thousand rupees respectively.
Similarly, the first winner in women received 55 thousand along with certificate and medal.
Likewise, second collected 40 thousand, third 20 and consolation got 10 for the same.
Rukum was once a base area for the Maoist People’s War and many had sacrificed their life for the cause.
