Industry Minister Gajendra Hamal has tendered his resignation to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Hamal resigned on Sunday morning, after Prime Minister Deuba asked him to do so following uproar of pressure against it.

Hamal’s appointment as Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies on Friday, had sparked widespread criticism dubbing the achievement as personal effort and lobbying  by the country’s chief justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana.

Hamal is the relative of CJ Shumsher Rana.

The Nepali Congress cadres themselves were unhappy over the issue, saying there were many senior leaders in the party who had made tremendous contribution and sacrifices for the party; but Hamal a district level leader and not a parliamentarian too had been given the big opportunity.

Even the commoners criticized the move, saying the entire judiciary would earn bad fame due to the incident.

However, soon after the appointment Hamal was seen defending himself, saying he had worked in the party since long time in different organizations.
