Amid different Speculations, Karnali Chief Minister has succeeded in grabbing vote of confidence.
CPN-UML MPs close to Madhav Kumar Nepal group crossed the floor to vote for Shahi and saved him of the possible dangers on Friday afternoon.
However, CPN-UML had withdrawn its support to the government led by Maoist (Centre) a month ago and led to confusion.
“We crossed the floor just to give a message to our party’s leaders,” said Prakash Jwala, a Provincial Assembly member representing UML. “We are ready to face any action from our parliamentary party.”
Besides Jwala, Kurmaraj Shahi, Nanda Singh Budha and Amar Thapa also crossed the floor, daring action from the party’s parliamentary party leader Yam Lal Kandel, who had issued whip to vote against the confidence motion.
There are 39 members in Karnali’s provincial Assembly, with Shahi needed to gain at least confidence vote of 20 members.
UML has 19 seats, excluding the Speaker, the Maoist Centre has 12 seats, Nepali Congress 6 and Rastriya Prajatantra Party has 1.
Thus, Shahi garnered total 22 votes with the support of Congress and 4 votes from floor crossing.
Furious CPN (UML) has recommended the Provincial Assembly secretariat for the suspension of the 4 MPs crossing the floor in favour of Shahi.
Congress has supported the Maoist in Karnali following the No confidence motion in Gandaki province on Thursday.
