The death toll in Kerala floods and heavy rainfall has reached 35 and yellow alert has been declared in 11 districts.
Congress-led opposition on Monday has accused the Pinarayi Vijayan government of not acting in time. However, the government quickly denied the charges. Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan, who on Sunday visited the worst-affected areas in Idukki and Kottayam districts, raised questions as to why, despite the IMD warning, the state government failed to act. The rainfall was subdued on Sunday after a day of havoc on Saturday. The India meteorological department (IMD) has forecast rainfall in the next three-four days. A yellow alert has been issued by the IMD for districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode.
