Wednesday, August 18, 2021/Kathmandu-
Leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, has formed a new party ‘CPN-UML(Socialist)’ after a long tussle within the KP Oli led UML.
Leader Nepal along with some of his party comrades and well-wishers reached the Election Commission, on Wednesday afternoon and filed application for the same.
The new party has kept open book as its election symbol.
Earlier, President Bidya Devi Bhandari had issued an ordinance to amend the Political Parties Act 2071, to ease party split.
Meanwhile, some leaders who had backed Nepal during the dissolution of house by Oli, like Bhim Rawal, Gokarna Bista, Yogesh Bhattarai, Asta Laxmi Shakya along others have chosen to stay back and not join the new party.
As per the spirit of the ordinance, 20 per cent or more members of the parliamentary party and the central committee of a political party can split their party to form a new one. Whereas the old provision required only the support of 40 percent.
