Standing Committee in favour of Withdrawing the Disputable Constitutional Council amendment ordinance.

NCP Standing Committee meeting held on Wednesday with majority voice demanded the immediate withdrawal.

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, on Tuesday, had promulgated the ordinance to amend the existing Constitutional Council (Functions, Duties, Powers and Procedures), on recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

Introduction of the Constitutional Council Ordinance with amendment requiring no majority for decision making had sparked disagreement within the ruling NCP and main opposition Nepali Congress.

Earlier this afternoon, some NCP lawmakers had been to President’s Office demanding a special session.

NCP Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha had informed the media about the meeting.

The next meeting of the standing committee will be held on Sunday, December 20.

Meanwhile, the earlier scheduled central committee meeting slated on December 20, has been shifted to December 25 following the changes.

The meeting was conducted at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.
