December 20, 2020/Kathmandu-
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has dissolved Parliament at the recommendation of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and announced mid-term general election.
President Bhandari has announced April 30 for the first phase and May 10 for the second phase of the mid-term election, as per a notice issued by President’s secretariat.
Prime Minister Oli had recommended the dissolution calling an emergency meeting on Sunday morning and President dissolved it in the afternoon.
The 275-member House of Representatives, which is the lower house of Parliament, was elected in 2017. The upper house is National Assembly.
The move comes amid the intra-party feud generated due to Oli’s lone exercise of power without party consultations.
Demonstrations are being staged in the capital Kathmandu and other major cities across the country against the move.
