Prime Minister KP Oli has lost his confidence vote following the poll held at parliament.
Out of the 232 lawmakers present on Monday, only 93 votes were casted in his favour, while 124 votes were against him.
Meanwhile, 15 lawmakers chose to stay neutral.
Oli needed 136 votes to win the trust vote.
Lawmakers from the Madhav Nepal-Jhala Nath Khanal faction of Oli’s party, CPN-UML had chosen to abstain.
The Nepali Congress had 61 votes and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) had 49 votes respectively.
Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal got splitted for the same. Mahantha Thakur-led faction stayed neutral while the Upendra Yadav-led group voted against Oli.
Earlier, Prime Minister Oli had been heard claiming 64 percent of the total votes in his favour.
