Prachanda-Madhav led NCP leader Ram Kumari Jhakri has been released following widespread protest.
Jhakri had been arrested for speaking against the President amid a program in Gorkha.
Huge protests were carried out across the country condemning the arrest against the freedom of expression.
It is said she was arrested upon direct orders of Prime Minister KP Oli.
After her arrest, she was kept at the Metropolitan Crime Division, Min Bhawan. Police had issued an arrest warrant and arrested Jhakri from her residence in Shankhamul.
“Actually we had arrested her following a complaint of All Nepal Women’s Association for false accusation against the President during her speech at Gorkha,” said SP Krishna Prasad Koirala, spokesperson at the Metropolitan Crime Division. “We have released her after interrogation.”
After her release she said:” Freedom of speech was the right of every citizen and no should control it.”
Some youths were arrested during the protest.
