Mahato Expression Protest: Nepal Faction Students Leaders Released After Brief Arrest

Student leaders of ANNFSU close to Madhav Kumar Nepal faction arrested over protest against the statement of Deputy PM Rajendra Mahato have been released.

The newly formed Nepal close ANNFSU’s president Sudesh Parajuli, General Secretary Aarati Lama along a dozen agitating students were arrested on Saturday evening, from Baneshwor in Kathmandu.

The students had staged the protest against the newly appointed DPM Mahato about his statement that they would run a movement for ‘multinational state’.

“This is against the constitution and our nationalism. So such anti-nationalist expressions should not be encouraged by the government,” said Aarati Lama, the general secretary of ANNFSU.

“We shall go for nationwide protest from tomorrow onwards and not stay quite over such a serious issue,” Lama added.

They were arrested and taken to Mahendra Police club and released after two hours.

They had chanted slogans like ‘Down with anti-national Oli government’ along others.

Earlier, in the afternoon, 15 leaders close to Nepal faction has issued a press nite against Mahato’s statement.

Mahato of JSP-Nepal was sworn in on Friday along with 10 of his party as the new Ministers.

PM KP Oli has reshuffled the cabinet in a bid to protect his chair.
